A glass conservator sometimes conducts prognostic conservation. This involves carefully studying and contextualising the vulnerabilities and condition of an object to anticipate possible future condition changes and the preventive or remedial treatments that may be required. Such a report can be particularly important for museum acquisitions. A glass conservator is involved at an early stage in purchases and acquisitions so that conservation considerations can be identified and properly addressed from the outset. Preventive measures and treatments that benefit the ‘health’ of the object may be recommended. An artist interview may form part of this process.
